Shooting in central Krakow

On 7 November 2026, a shooting occurred in the centre of Krakow. Senior constable Jakub Kulik, together with his partner Artur Moranski, were the first to engage the offender in combat. The officers arrived at the scene and entered a shootout just three minutes after receiving the call.

It is noted that the police officers' actions allowed the attacker to be neutralised and prevented greater losses among civilians.

Severe injuries and surgery

During the detention, Kulik sustained severe gunshot wounds. According to information, the police officer was hit by three bullets. Following a complex surgical operation, the law enforcement officer's condition stabilised.

Before joining the police service, Jakub Kulik was a military serviceman. He served as a paratrooper in the 18th Battalion of the 6th Airborne Brigade of the Armed Forces of Poland, based in Bielsko-Biala.

Comparison with incident in Kyiv

Political scientist Vitaliy Kulik commented on the events in Poland, comparing the actions of Polish police officers with the behaviour of Ukrainian law enforcement officers during the attack in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv.

The expert emphasised that he does not intend to devalue the work of the Ukrainian police, as he is aware of numerous examples of heroism by employees of security services.

At the same time, he expressed doubts as to whether proper conclusions were drawn after the incident in the Holosiivskyi district.

«Як дії Якуба Кулика контрастують з тими нашими поліцейськими, які тікали від терориста на Голосієво в подібній ситуації. Я не знецінює українську поліцію. Знаю героїчних людей в синій формі. Але маємо два кейси. І я маю сумнів, що з Голосієво зроблені висновки» (How the actions of Jakub Kulik contrast with those of our police officers who fled from the terrorist in Holosiivka in a similar situation. I do not devalue the Ukrainian police. I know heroic people in blue uniforms. But we have two cases. And I have doubts that conclusions were drawn from Holosiivka), wrote Vitaliy Kulik.
