Charges for corruption offence

On 28 October, at the Medyka road border crossing in Poland, law enforcement officers detained a Ukrainian citizen, who was subsequently charged with corruption. This was reported by InPoland, citing the Bieszczady Border Guard Unit of Poland.

The incident occurred during the inspection of a Renault vehicle with Ukrainian registration. Border guards found that the degree of glass tinting on the vehicle significantly exceeded the standards established by legislation, which was confirmed by a special measuring device.

Attempt to influence official's decision

Due to non-compliance with technical requirements, the driver was refused entry into Polish territory. At this stage, one of the passengers attempted to influence the official's decision by offering him 100 zloty for failing to perform his official duties.

After the attempted bribery was recorded, the driver was detained and taken to the prosecutor's office. She is charged with offering improper benefit to a public official while they were performing their official functions.

Return to Ukraine and court investigation

According to the Bieszczady Border Guard Unit, after the completion of investigative actions, the vehicle along with the passengers was returned to Ukrainian territory. The further fate of the criminal case will be decided by a Polish court.

Previously, another bribery attempt at the border was reported: at the Hrushiv border crossing, a man offered a Ukrainian border guard $600 for permission to leave. The official refused the money, and information about the possible criminal offence was passed to the police.
