Parliament re-sends request regarding awarding journalist
During a session on 15 October, Members of Parliament adopted a decision to appeal to the head of state again. The Verkhovna Rada sent Volodymyr Zelensky a request proposing to posthumously award journalist Viktoria Roshchyna the title of Hero of Ukraine.
This was announced by Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, head of the committee on freedom of speech and information policy, who published the relevant information on his social media channels.
Voting results and committee position
As Yurchyshyn noted, the initiative was supported by 255 votes. The MP emphasised the dignity of the award:
«Вікторія Рощина гідна звання Героя України посмертно. Верховна Рада України щойно 255 голосами направила президенту України запит щодо присвоєння цієї відзначення Вікторії» (Viktoria Roshchyna deserves the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has just, by 255 votes, sent the President of Ukraine a request regarding the awarding of this distinction to Viktoria), he stressed.
Yurchyshyn expressed hope that the president would support the parliamentarians' initiative.
Reaction from the President's Office
Previously, in October, the Office of the President of Ukraine stated that it did not have information on when the expert group would consider the application for posthumously awarding Viktoria Roshchyna the title of Hero of Ukraine.
