Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has intensified efforts to reduce the bureaucratic burden on military personnel. His initiative involves cancelling unnecessary meetings, documents, and record-keeping logs. The aim of these measures is to free officers from routine paperwork, allowing them to dedicate more time to direct combat tasks.
Maksym Zhoryn, Deputy Commander of the 3rd Army Corps, provided details on the implementation of this programme. According to him, a clear trend has emerged in the army towards simplifying military life by abandoning unnecessary administrative procedures.
«Потроху ці процеси — зайві наради, зайві папірці, зайві журнали — починають прибирати, що надзвичайно важливо і круто» (Gradually, these processes — unnecessary meetings, unnecessary papers, unnecessary logs — are being removed, which is extremely important and cool), Maksym Zhoryn emphasised.
The optimisation process is gradual and covers various levels of command. As Maksym Zhoryn noted, it was the 3rd Army Corps that submitted proposals to the leadership regarding which specific bureaucratic aspects most hinder the work of individual departments and officers.
Thus, the Armed Forces command is attempting to take into account signals "from below" from commanders who directly face excessive paperwork.
The current measures are a continuation of previous steps taken by Mykhailo Drapatyi. On 9 September, the Commander-in-Chief cancelled more than 30 outdated orders of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which were considered redundant for modern military conditions.
At that time, Vitaliy Sarantsev, Head of the Communications Department of the 14th Army Corps, assessed these actions as the removal of a "pile of old bureaucratic junk" from the army.
The simplification of administrative processes fits into the general logic of personnel and management changes initiated by Mykhailo Drapatyi after his appointment as Commander-in-Chief. He is consistently reviewing internal procedures, focusing on reducing the burden on middle and lower-ranking commanders. This is intended to ensure the concentration of resources and time on the execution of combat tasks rather than bureaucratic work.
