Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko confirmed that Minsk maintains its course of cooperation with Moscow in the context of the war against Ukraine. Speaking to participants of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting, he emphasised the unchanging position of the republic while acknowledging that it has its own vision regarding certain details of the conflict.

“Co-aggressors” and differences in assessments

According to Lukashenko, he regularly discusses the situation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The Belarusian ruler claims that their approaches are more refined, as both leaders, in his opinion, understand well what is happening on the front line.

(Two words so that you understand my position on the war in Ukraine. Vladimir Vladimirovich and I often discuss this topic. Our approaches are more refined because both he and I know what is happening on the front line. After all, we are "co-aggressors" with him. We have one question (sometimes discussed in jest): who is more of an "aggressor" – me or him), – Belarusian state information portal BELTA quoted Lukashenko.

Commitment to supporting Moscow

Despite acknowledging differences in views on certain aspects of conducting hostilities, the head of the Belarusian authorities emphasised readiness to support the decisions of the Russian leadership.

(We will always be with you, despite our specific understanding of what is happening there. We have never been traitors), – Lukashenko stated.

Comment on US policy

Separately, Lukashenko commented on the actions of US President Donald Trump. He expressed gratitude to the American leader for, in his assessment, having “openly exposed the policy of the West, and above all the US”.

(Venezuela is oil. Cuba is our security; neither Russia nor China, nor anyone else should have any business here, this is ours. Greenland – it is needed for that or the other. He (Trump. – Ed.) does not hide behind any diplomatic formulations. And we saw the real face of Western policy, Western diplomacy, and above all the US. Based on this, seeing their policy, draw your own conclusions), – Lukashenko added.
