Activist opposes demands for elections during hostilities
Laura Loomer, an American far-right activist and devoted supporter of US President Donald Trump, publicly expressed disagreement with proposals to change the leadership in Ukraine. Earlier this summer, she visited Ukraine and met with Volodymyr Zelensky. This time, Loomer responded to Trump's demands, which call for Zelensky's removal and the organisation of presidential elections against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict.
Focusing attention on the Russian leader
In the activist's view, the priority for the international community should not be pressure on the Ukrainian head of state, but rather pressing Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. She emphasises that if people want elections in Ukraine, they should pressure Putin to end the war.
Martial law as an obstacle to voting
Loomer explains that the absence of elections in Ukraine is due to the current martial law. The country is under martial law because of a continuous state of emergency and an active war that has engulfed it for five years. Therefore, in her opinion, the logical step for those demanding a vote is to demand that Putin end the war.
Elections possible only after a peaceful settlement
The Trump supporter emphasises that Ukrainians will only have the opportunity to elect a new president after the end of hostilities. She considers it illogical to demand the replacement of Volodymyr Zelensky before the cessation of Russian aggression.
«Здається нелогічним вимагати від України замінити Зеленського, коли вибори можуть і відбудуться, щойно Путін погодиться завершити війну» (It seems illogical to demand that Ukraine replace Zelensky when elections can and will take place as soon as Putin agrees to end the war), the activist noted.
