The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reports that Russia is already replacing Chinese turbojet engines in the latest modifications of Geran drones with its own, manufactured in Tatarstan.

Navigation system upgrades

In addition to the engine, other equipment in the drones is also being changed. According to GUR data, the basis of the new unit in these Gerans is a magnetometer of American manufacture, which increases the accuracy of autonomous navigation.

Furthermore, a new autonomous navigation system, Susanin (optoelectronic correlation), has been implemented. It compares images from an optical sensor with a reference image stored in the memory of the onboard computer, ensuring precise route tracking of the UAV from the launch point to the target.

Context of production issues

As previously reported, a shaped charge warhead (cumulative-cutting special load) is used for destroying bridges (cutting with a cumulative jet) and high-voltage power line supports.

It is also known that Ukraine is currently hindered in scaling the production of jet interceptors primarily by a shortage of turbojet engines.
