Joint initiative to strengthen cyber hygiene

Players of the Prykarpattia-Blaho football club, together with the BRAMA project and the Cyber Police, have joined efforts to inform the public about the threats of financial fraud. The main goal of the initiative is to remind citizens of the importance of being careful with their confidential information in the digital environment.

The athletes' activities are conducted under the slogan "Don't let the fraudster score a goal!". As part of their cooperation with the Cyber Police and the BRAMA project, the footballers highlight how fraudsters attempt to gain unauthorised access to others' funds.

Crooks' manipulation methods

Organisers of the campaign note that despite the variety of tactics, the ultimate goal of financial fraudsters remains constant — seizing banking data and victims' money. Criminals lure out payment card details, passwords for online banking, and other data that opens the way to theft.

One common method is the imitation of official messages or calls from representatives of banks, government agencies, or other organisations. Under fabricated pretexts, criminals may persuade a person to urgently confirm personal data, provide a one-time code from an SMS, or click on a suspicious link. Such behaviour can lead to a complete loss of control over a bank account and the disappearance of funds.

Cybersecurity experts' recommendations

Experts advise following simple but critically important rules to avoid becoming a victim of criminals:

  • Never disclose passwords, PIN codes, and bank transaction confirmation codes to third parties.
  • Verify the authenticity of received messages.
  • Refrain from clicking on suspicious links and entering payment details on unknown websites.

If an unknown person claiming to be a bank employee asks for confidential information, the conversation must be terminated immediately. Afterwards, one should independently contact the financial institution using only its official communication channels.

The significance of involving athletes

Involving footballers in the information campaign allows cybersecurity rules to be conveyed to a wider audience, particularly among football fans. The initiative aims to draw attention to the problem of financial fraud and remind people that caution when using digital services helps protect personal funds.

Detailed materials on common fraud schemes, ways to protect banking data, and safe online behaviour are available on the official website of the Cyber Police of Ukraine and the "Cyber Brama" information portal.

It is worth noting that criminal liability has already been introduced in Ukraine not only for creating fraudulent call centres but also for knowingly facilitating their activities and recruiting new employees. The Cyber Police emphasise that even providing premises or equipment can have criminal consequences if the person was aware of the illegal activities of such an "office".
