Report by the Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation
Vladimir Putin received information from Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, regarding the progress of the joint military exercises “Centre-2026”. In his report, cited by Russian media, the official described the tactical actions carried out during the manoeuvres.
Offensive phase scenario
According to Yevkurov, after simulating the repulsion of hypothetical aggression, the coalition grouping transitioned to an offensive. The main objective of this stage was “the liberation of occupied territory and the creation of a security zone on adjacent territory”.
Military personnel from the People’s Republic of China participated in the offensive part of the exercises. According to Interfax agency, units of the Chinese army were positioned on the left flank, acting jointly with the military of Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The participation of Chinese troops in the attack was also reported by a correspondent for Kommersant, who was present at the site of the manoeuvres.
Geography of the manoeuvres
The military exercises took place on the Central Asian strategic direction. Yevkurov’s report did not specify which particular state was considered the “adjacent territory” for the creation of the security zone; no specific country is named.
