Repeated strike on city infrastructure

The night of 30 October proved exceptionally difficult for Dnipro. Russian troops struck the railway station again, causing serious consequences for the city's infrastructure. This was reported by Oleksandr Ganch, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, city mayor Borys Filatov, and Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, details regarding the damage from the new strike have not yet been disclosed. He emphasised that the night was extremely difficult not only because of the damage to the station, but also because the region was left without power.

Consequences of previous attack and passenger evacuation

This incident occurred less than 24 hours after a jet-powered drone struck a platform where a passenger train was standing. The number of fatalities from that attack rose to 15: a 40-year-old man died in hospital, for whom medical staff fought until the end.

On the night of 30 October, numerous passengers were at the station, trying to leave the city as quickly as possible. Oleksandr Pertsovskyi noted that all passengers would be evacuated, but only when it is safe. Sometimes people have to be sent back to shelters almost by force. For those who cannot use their tickets, a 100% refund is provided. Train conductors are collecting information on transfers to offer a solution to each passenger.

Critical state of energy system and transport

In the evening of 29 October, following another strike, more than 350,000 subscribers in Dnipro and nearby settlements were left without power. Although energy workers managed to partially restore supply during the night, the city was again de-energised in the morning.

«Енергетики всю ніч працювали, але система не витримує» (Energy workers worked all night, but the system cannot withstand it), explained mayor Borys Filatov.

Due to the lack of electricity, the metro, trams, and trolleybuses in the city have stopped operating. Currently, only buses are running. The city mayor urged residents to stay home if possible.

Water supply and recommendations for residents

Water supply and sewage systems in Dnipro are operating on generators. Borys Filatov asked citizens to have a water supply at home for one to two days. For those who have regained power, the Regional Military Administration recommends switching on high-power appliances in turn.

Recall that at around 11:00 am on 29 October, a Russian jet-powered drone struck a platform at Dnipro railway station, where passenger train No. 866 on the Dnipro – Zaporizhzhia route was standing. Despite the declaration of an elevated level of danger, many people remained on the platform. At least 15 people were killed.
