Scepticism about the outcome of upcoming consultations

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius expressed doubts that the trilateral talks scheduled for next week in Abu Dhabi would lead to a quick ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. In an interview with publications from the Funke media group, he stated that current circumstances do not create the preconditions for an optimistic forecast.

Dependence on decisions by US and Russian leaders

According to the head of Germany's defence ministry, events over the past months indicate that US President Donald Trump's strategy does not guarantee a swift achievement of a quiet regime or even a full-fledged peace. Pistorius emphasised that the key factor in concluding a ceasefire remains the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the further steps of the American leader.

Unacceptability of deals behind Kyiv's back

At the same time, the minister underlined a principled position regarding Ukraine's participation in the peace process. He noted that any agreement between Russia and the US, concluded at the expense of Ukraine's interests and without its direct participation, is unacceptable both for Kyiv and for European partners.
