Former UK Defence Secretary detained on paedophilia charges

Ivor Caplin, former UK Defence Minister, was detained while attempting to meet a 15-year-old boy he had met online.

Caplin was caught by activists posing as teenagers who engage in "sting" operations targeting paedophiles. They arranged a meeting with Caplin, which was subsequently broadcast on social media. 

According to the activists, the day before he had sent inappropriate messages to a person posing as a minor.

Caplin himself categorically denied his intention to meet the teenager, stating during the broadcast: "Я ничего не делал" (I did nothing). Later, the police confirmed the fact of the detention and launched an investigation into the case.

Previously, Ivor Caplin was a member of the ruling Labour Party, although it is unknown whether he retains his membership at present.
