Verkhovna Rada approves purchase of Russian reactors

Kyiv, Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the decision to acquire two Russian reactors for the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant, for which a significant amount — approximately half a billion euros — is planned to be allocated.

The acquisition of the reactors will not benefit Russia, as the equipment will be purchased from Bulgaria, which previously bought these reactors from Russia.

According to People's Deputy Viktor Zhupanin, the Bulgarians do not plan to use these reactors for the construction of nuclear power plants, and therefore the Ukrainian authorities decided to acquire them for the Khmelnytskyi NPP.

Disagreements in calculations and estimates

Interestingly, discrepancies in the estimated cost of the deal emerged during the discussion. Some deputies cited different figures, raising questions about the precise financial aspects of the transaction.
