Ukraine's parliament seeks to ban oil transit through the country

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada is preparing to adopt a bill providing for the immediate cessation of Russian oil transit through the country's territory to the European Union.

A similar decision was made regarding gas transit, which was halted from 1 January 2025. However, in the case of gas, the decision was not made by the Verkhovna Rada. It was the expiry date of the transit agreement with Russia. Upon its expiration, transportation was stopped.

For example, the Druzhba pipeline brings Russia approximately $20 million a day. The current contract, signed in 2019, will remain in force until the end of 2029.
