Vance triggers new conflict over Greenland

Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede expressed outrage over the recent visit by a US delegation led by the wife of the US Vice President. 

The politician emphasised that the events cannot be perceived as merely a diplomatic gesture, noting that a national security advisor was among the participants, which only strengthens suspicions.

«Мы находимся в ситуации, когда этот визит трудно назвать невинным. Что советник по нацбезопасности делает в Гренландии?» (We are in a situation where it is difficult to call this visit innocent. What is the national security advisor doing in Greenland?) — Egede stated.

Disappointment in allies

The Prime Minister of Greenland also noted the weak support from democratic countries. According to him, international partners are behaving extremely passively and are not in a hurry to openly express solidarity with Copenhagen on this issue.

US accuses Denmark of insufficient activity

Against this backdrop, US Vice President JD Vance criticised Denmark's position, stating that it is not fulfilling its obligations regarding the island. According to him, Copenhagen is not a reliable ally for Washington.

«Дания не делает свою работу и не является хорошим партнером» (Denmark is not doing its job and is not a good partner), the American politician noted.

Greenland at the centre of US strategic interests

Vance also hinted at the possibility of strengthening the American presence in the region, referring to the policy of former President Donald Trump, who previously proposed buying Greenland.

Если это означает, что у нас должен быть больший территориальный интерес в Гренландии, то именно так поступит президент Трамп. Его не волнует, что кричат европейцы – для него главное интересы американских граждан» (We need to ask ourselves how we can solve this problem from a national security perspective. If it means that we should have a greater territorial interest in Greenland, that is exactly what President Trump will do. He does not care what Europeans are shouting – for him, the main thing is the interests of American citizens), he stated.
