What is the reason for Deep Seek's success

Chinese company Deep Seek has unveiled an artificial intelligence model that proved more efficient than its American counterparts at significantly lower costs. The development cost just $6 million, whereas the creation of the latest version of ChatGPT is estimated at tens of billions.

Such a result was achieved thanks to an unexpected constraint: the US banned the export of modern microchips to China. As a result, instead of simply increasing computing power, as other AI developers do, Chinese engineers focused on optimising algorithms. They managed to create more efficient software that demonstrates excellent performance even on outdated and less powerful chips.

Notably, Deep Seek made its AI model available in open access, allowing anyone to download and use it at their discretion.

This strategy has become an unexpected challenge for industry leaders, including OpenAI. Thanks to the efforts of a previously little-known Chinese company, the monopoly of major players on huge budgets and leadership in the field of artificial intelligence has been put at risk.
