Ukrainian killed in Mali

Yesterday, Islamist militants seized the Bilbos hotel in Mali, where staff of the UN international mission were staying, resulting in several people being taken hostage. One of them managed to escape, and it turned out to be a Ukrainian. However, not everyone was so lucky.

It emerged that one Ukrainian citizen was killed during the seizure. The country's law enforcement agencies reported this.

Malian military authorities established the nationality of three of the 13 killed; in addition to the Ukrainian, they included a Russian citizen and a South African. The bodies of the remaining 10 are undergoing identification.

It was previously reported that special police units had stormed the hotel.
