Plane collides with drone while fighting fire in Los Angeles

Local fire authorities reported that a Canadian "Super Scooper" aircraft, deployed to combat the wildfire in the upscale Palisades district, was forced to end its flight after colliding with a civilian drone. The incident occurred due to a photographer attempting to capture dramatic footage. This is reported by LA Times.

Aircraft damage

The Canadair CL-415 aircraft, known as Quebec 1, is designed to collect up to 1,500 gallons of seawater and drop it on fire hotspots. However, following the collision, it sustained wing damage. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Eric Scott confirmed that the aircraft has been temporarily taken out of service, although the pilots were unharmed.

Photos of the aircraft with registration number C-GQBG, published by the media, show a hole in the wing. This aircraft is registered as a Canadair CL-415.

Flight suspension

Following the incident, all operations involving aircraft participating in the firefighting efforts were temporarily suspended. Quebec 1 was one of two aircraft deployed to combat the blaze.

Fire services are urging citizens to strictly observe the ban on the use of drones in disaster zones to avoid similar situations in the future.
