Syria agrees to UN forces deployment in buffer zone with Israel

De facto head of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa stated his readiness to accept the deployment of UN peacekeeping forces in the buffer zone located on the border with Israel. This territory was occupied by Israeli forces following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

According to Reuters, al-Sharaa noted that the Israeli presence in this region had previously been linked to threats from Iranian militias and Hezbollah. 

However, in his view, since the liberation of Damascus and the disappearance of these threats, the justification for the presence of Israeli troops on Syrian territory has vanished. 

Instead, according to the Syrian leader, Israel is using other reasons for its presence in the buffer zone and its advance into Syrian regions.
