US prepares new sanctions against Russian oil carriers

The administration of US President Joe Biden intends to introduce additional sanctions aimed at restricting trade in Russian oil.

According to Reuters, the restrictions will apply to tankers transporting Russian oil at a price above the established threshold of $60 a barrel.

In addition, the sanctions will affect individuals involved in the sale of oil in violation of the price cap. The aim of these measures is to increase pressure on the Russian oil sector and limit revenues used to fund military operations.

Meanwhile, global oil prices have risen for six days of the new year. Brent crude is trading at around $77 a barrel.
