SBU foils terrorist attack in central Kyiv

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented a terrorist attack in central Kyiv. Law enforcement officers detained a 22-year-old resident of Lviv who had been recruited by Russian special services. 

According to the investigation, she was planning an explosion near the building of one of the SBU units. During a search of the detainee, a homemade explosive device was found, with a power equivalent to 7 kg of TNT.

Experts note that the detonation of such explosives in a densely populated area could have led to extensive destruction. The blast radius in conditions of dense urban development could have been tens of metres, causing damage to building facades, shattered windows, and the destruction of load-bearing structures. 

In addition, the explosion would have triggered a powerful shockwave and the scattering of shrapnel, resulting in a significant number of casualties among civilians and law enforcement personnel.
