Russia creates sabotage department

Moscow has expanded its capacity to conduct subversive operations abroad by establishing a specialised unit within the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (GRU).

According to The Washington Post, this department is responsible for coordinating sabotage, including arson, explosions and cyberattacks on the territory of Western states.

Intelligence services report that such operations have intensified since 2022. The primary targets are Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom, with local radical groups and criminal figures being recruited to carry out the tasks.

In response to the growing threat, European Union countries have strengthened security measures, aiming to prevent potential attacks linked to the activities of Russian agents.
