US President revokes permission for transgender service

New US presidential executive order
On 20 January, on his first day in office, Donald Trump signed an executive order repealing the previous decision that allowed transgender people to serve in the military. This move is a significant step in implementing his policy aimed at reviewing a number of previously adopted initiatives.

Return to the ban
Trump revoked the executive order signed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, which permitted transgender individuals to serve in the armed forces. The new president reinstated his previous ban, introduced during his first term, on the service of individuals whose gender identity differs from the sex listed in their documents.

Future of the ban
Although the executive order repealing the right of transgender people to serve in the military has not yet taken effect, its revocation creates the possibility for further steps within this policy. In his statement, Trump emphasised that government institutions would recognise only two sexes — male and female.

Repeal of inclusivity programmes
In addition, Trump ordered the cancellation of programmes related to inclusivity and diversity operating in federal agencies and institutions. These programmes, implemented during the previous administration, faced criticism from several members of the new government.
