"The plane that crashed in Aktau sustained damage as a result of shelling from the ground," said Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

He also added that "the facts indicate that the Azerbaijani aircraft was damaged from outside on Russian territory, near the city of Grozny, and effectively lost control.

Our aircraft was rendered uncontrollable by electronic warfare (EW) means. This was the first damage inflicted on the aircraft".

In other words, the President of Azerbaijan has officially confirmed that Russia shot down a passenger plane.
