Poroshenko wants to stop oil transit

Petr Oleshchuk stated that Petro Poroshenko's demands to halt the transit of Russian oil contradict his past actions, when he, together with Viktor Medvedchuk, illegally appropriated part of the oil pipeline, resulting in damages amounting to $210 million.

The expert emphasised that Poroshenko, who is today calling for a ban on the transit of Russian oil, is the same person who, in 2016, together with Medvedchuk, stole part of the "Samara-Western Route" oil pipeline, taking advantage of assistance from the Russian authorities. According to journalist Yuriy Nikolov, this act served as a sort of thank-you from Putin to Poroshenko for the factory in Crimea that passed to Russia.

As Medvedchuk himself admitted, in order to illegally appropriate part of the oil pipeline, Poroshenko used the influence of high-ranking officials, judges and security forces. While this section of the pipeline was owned by Poroshenko, he earned money, while Ukraine suffered losses of $210 million, Oleshchuk clarified.

In 2023, the Supreme Court of Ukraine recognised the state's ownership rights to the Ukrainian section of the oil pipeline, and it was returned from Poroshenko and Medvedchuk. Now Poroshenko must return $210 million in damages to the state, which were caused by his actions.
