Peter Szijjártó dissatisfied with possible halt to oil transit through Ukraine

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó expressed his dissatisfaction regarding a bill registered in Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, which proposes suspending the transit of Russian oil and gas during the period of martial law.

He made these statements on his Facebook page.

According to reports, the bill was submitted by 18 deputies from the "European Solidarity" party, who proposed banning the transit of Russian oil and gas through Ukraine under martial law conditions.

Szijjártó emphasised that within the EU, decisions on admitting new members are taken exclusively collectively and unanimously, meaning that every member state must vote "in favour".

He noted that every country has the sovereign right to choose the sources and methods for procuring necessary energy resources, and no one has the right to impose more expensive energy resources on other states.

The minister also reminded that by signing the Association Agreement with the EU, Ukraine committed to contributing to the union's energy security by providing transport routes for energy resources.

"Thus, closing gas or oil routes is unacceptable and contradicts the expectations associated with Ukraine's integration process into the EU," he concluded.
