Pope discharged from hospital after five weeks of treatment

Pope Francis has been discharged from a hospital in Rome following a prolonged stay during which he underwent treatment for five weeks. The 86-year-old pontiff made his first public appearance, waving to the faithful from the hospital balcony.

Pontiff's health condition and recovery plan

The Pope suffered from bilateral pneumonia, which significantly worsened his condition from mid-February. During this period, he experienced four acute episodes of the illness, two of which posed a threat to his life. Despite these difficulties, the pontiff successfully completed his course of treatment.

Francis now plans to spend the remaining two months of his recovery in the Vatican, where he will continue his rehabilitation following the illness.
