The most popular alcohol on the New Year's table

The New Year holidays are approaching. At the same time, people are actively planning which dishes to prepare and which alcoholic beverages to purchase for the festive table.

As a result, according to statistical data, alcohol sales increased by a quarter in just the first ten days of December, with the pace accelerating daily. This indicates only that people plan to drink heavily. This is facilitated by the fact that there are quite a few public holidays falling on weekends this year.

One might think the answer is obvious – champagne. After all, this beverage is associated with New Year for many. But – no. In fact, sparkling wines occupy only the second position in the ranking of the most in-demand beverages on the New Year's table.

So, what is the leader?

In the post-Soviet space, the first place in the ranking of beverages for the New Year celebration is taken by …. vodka. It is this drink that people buy in bulk before the holidays. Currently, its consumption among Ukrainians accounts for over 50% of the total amount of alcohol consumed in the country.

Wine takes third place. People prefer semi-sweet and sweet drinks.

Rounding out the top four are strong imported drinks – whisky, rum and gin.

As for manufacturers, the majority prefer domestically produced goods. Italian drinks come in second, followed by French ones.

Georgian wines are becoming less popular. The decline in demand is due to the unjustifiably high price of the drinks. Demand for Moldovan wines has also noticeably decreased in recent years.

According to surveys, one-third of the amount people are willing to spend on the New Year's table will go specifically to alcoholic beverages.

This is a fairly significant figure. Especially considering that the majority choose vodka. Excessive consumption can lead to alcoholism.
