Traffic police chief Yershov resigns

A scandal surrounding Ukrainian traffic police chief A.A. Yershov has been raging for several days, after his daughter received an expensive Rover from him as a birthday gift, while he and his family members drive new luxury cars and frequently vacation abroad in five-star hotels.

Today Yershov voluntarily submitted his resignation. This was announced by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov on his Facebook page.

«Информирую. Только что от меня вышел И.о. начальника ГАИ Украины А.А. Ершов. Он подал рапорт об отставке, который был мной удовлетворен. По фактам вопросов, поднятых в прессе в последнее время – начато служебное расследование» ("I am informing you. Acting Head of the Ukrainian Traffic Police A.A. Yershov has just left my office. He submitted a resignation report, which I have approved. An internal investigation has been launched regarding the issues raised in the press recently"), Avakov wrote.

It is worth noting that the chair is also rocking under the Interior Minister himself, as petitions for his dismissal are currently being collected among the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
