Forests burning in northern Italy

Forests are burning in the Tuscany region of northern Italy. The area of the fire has already exceeded 600 hectares and continued to expand until today. Olive groves have been damaged by the flames. Many of them have been completely destroyed. Restoration could take decades. This will inevitably lead to rising prices for olives and the oil produced from them.

At present, rescuers have no information about people who may have been in the epicentre of the fire. Temperatures in the burning area are measured in hundreds of degrees. Causes of the fire

According to rescuers, the cause of the disaster in Tuscany was a simple arson. Greece faced a similar situation in the summer of 2018. At that time, unknown individuals set fire to the forest in several locations, resulting in a vast area burning down. Authorities were forced to urgently evacuate people from the disaster zone.

The situation in Italy is no less catastrophic. All available resources have been deployed to extinguish the fire. Currently, eight fire crews are attempting to bring the blaze under control. More than fifty volunteers have joined the firefighting efforts. Two aircraft and helicopters have also been deployed, dropping tonnes of water from the air.

Rescuers claim that they have managed to partially bring the situation under control at this point. The fire has already stopped spreading. However, it has not yet been fully extinguished. This could take days, or possibly weeks. Everything will depend on weather conditions and the wind, which can carry sparks over long distances, thereby increasing the area of the fire and complicating the work of rescuers.
