Moldova decides to supply gas to Transnistria

Heating and electricity supply in Transnistria will be restored within the next few days, the head of the unrecognised "republic" stated.

Earlier, Moldovan media reported that Chisinau had begun supplying gas to the region using European Union grants. Acting director of Moldovagaz, Vadim Cheban, specified that 3 million cubic metres of fuel had been directed to Transnistria since 1 February. According to him, this volume is sufficient to maintain pressure in the gas pipeline.

Cheban emphasised that this does not involve new purchases, but rather the redistribution of gas already present in the Moldovan system.

The supply agreement was concluded between companies from Moldova and Transnistria, with Tiraspoltransgaz obliged either to return the fuel by 1 March or to compensate for its cost. According to expert estimates, this volume will last for approximately 10 days.
