Klitschko accuses head of Kyiv City Military Administration of usurping power

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko accused the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration of attempting to usurp power and create obstacles to the management of the capital. 

In an open letter to the President of Ukraine, he emphasised that the actions of the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration are destabilising the work of city services.

According to Klitschko, the new head of the administration, who lacks military education and combat experience, is blocking decisions on key issues. Specifically, this concerns the restoration of damaged housing, the payment of compensation to those affected, and the reconstruction of city infrastructure.

The mayor stated that instead of carrying out tasks related to security and defence, the leadership of the Kyiv City Military Administration is attempting to take control of the powers of the mayor, the city council, and the administration of Kyiv, which, in his words, contradicts current legislation.

“The military administration is a temporary body intended to ensure defence and security, not to concentrate power in one pair of hands,” Klitschko emphasised.

Previously, the Office of the President reported on upcoming personnel changes among the heads of Kyiv’s district administrations.
