Chinese vessel runs aground off Sakhalin coast

The Chinese vessel "Ang Yang-2", which was carrying dangerous cargo, suffered an accident near Sakhalin, running aground close to the Russian port of Nevelsk. This became known thanks to a statement by Valery Limarenko, the Governor of Sakhalin Oblast, in his social media.

According to local media reports, the incident occurred when the vessel, which was transporting 56 tonnes of diesel fuel, 706 tonnes of fuel oil and 1,000 tonnes of coal, sustained a hull breach in the Nevelsk district. There were 20 crew members on board. It is important to note that the exact extent of the vessel's damage remains undetermined at this time. The reason for this is translation difficulties, which hinder the acquisition of precise information from the Chinese crew.

Governor Limarenko noted that rescue services are unable to approach the vessel due to a severe storm, which complicates efforts to unload it and refloat it. A decision on further actions will be made as soon as weather conditions improve.

At present, the crew has not reported any casualties, and according to preliminary data, they are not in any danger. They have a supply of water and food, and no medical assistance is required. Russian authorities also state that no fuel spill has been observed at the scene of the accident so far.
