Cabinet initiates audit of Cherkasy Bridge construction costs

The Government of Ukraine has instructed the State Audit Service to conduct a detailed review of the financial aspects of the Cherkasy Bridge construction. It is suspected that the company "Avtostrada" may have significantly inflated the cost of the work. In addition, other projects associated with the activities of businessman Maksym Shkil will also be subject to review, including the construction of the Vinohrady metro line.

Financial irregularities under scrutiny

Preliminary data suggests that Shkil's collaboration with Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has caused damage to the Ukrainian budget, which is already estimated at over 50 million dollars. Particular attention will be paid to the analysis of tender procedures, cost estimates, and actual expenditures to determine how closely the declared amounts correspond to the work actually performed.

Why have questions arisen?

"Avtostrada", known for its involvement in major infrastructure projects, has repeatedly been the subject of criticism due to suspicions of cost inflation. The Cherkasy Bridge and the Vinohrady metro are merely the tip of the iceberg, and the government intends to thoroughly investigate the financing mechanisms of these projects.
