Elon Musk mocks independence of USAID-funded media

Elon Musk has once again drawn attention to the issue of media independence, sarcastically commenting on the US government's influence on the press. In response to a user's question about whether the US had funded global media to broadcast a convenient agenda, the billionaire replied briefly: "По сути, да" (Essentially, yes).

This news sparked a lively discussion among social media users. In particular, many pointed to the role of USAID in funding media in various countries. 

According to available data, up to 90% of media outlets in Ukraine were supported through this programme, which calls into question their true independence.

The organisation also funded the United Russia party in Russia.
