Greenland may gain independence

Greenland may gain independence, but will not become part of the US, Danish foreign minister says.

Lars Rasmussen, the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs, stated his support for Greenland's aspirations for independence. However, he emphasised that, should these plans be realised, Greenland does not intend to become a US state.

If it becomes independent, it will remain a sovereign state, with no aspirations to join the United States), Rasmussen noted.

In addition, he highlighted that increased Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic is causing serious concern in the US. Denmark is ready to engage in dialogue with the American side to strengthen cooperation and facilitate the realisation of Washington's strategic interests in the Arctic region.
