SBI opens investigation into Andriy Basarab

The State Bureau of Investigation has opened an investigation into Andriy Basarab, the chief inspector of the Lviv Customs Administration, who is suspected of illegal enrichment and inaccurate asset declaration.

According to the investigation, Basarab failed to disclose several major assets in his declaration, including:

• the Saltzbork hotel complex in Lviv Oblast, owned by his wife;
• 25 land plots, several real estate objects, and a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle, owned by his parents;
• two land plots, an apartment, a shop, two houses, and two cars, owned by his father-in-law.

Basarab was previously dismissed from the customs service but was reinstated to his position through the courts. While the investigation continues and authorities determine how he managed to accumulate his wealth, his property has been seized.
