France reacts to Trump's remarks

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot reacted to statements by 47th US President Donald Trump regarding interest in Greenland, stating that the European Union will not tolerate interference in its territories.

In a statement conveyed to Reuters, Barrot noted that he does not consider a US invasion of Greenland, which has been part of Denmark for over 600 years, to be possible. The minister also emphasised that the EU stands firm in defending its sovereign borders and will not allow third countries to threaten its territorial integrity.

According to Reuters, on 6 January, Trump expressed views on possible military or economic measures to gain control over Greenland and the Panama Canal. 

In response, Barrot underlined Europe's determination to defend its independence, adding that the European Union is a powerful continent ready to protect its integrity.
