Europe secretly discusses stationing troops in Ukraine

A number of European countries are holding confidential talks on the possible deployment of troops on Ukrainian territory, reports Associated Press.

The aim is to monitor a future peace agreement

According to the agency, the initiative is aimed at ensuring compliance with a potential peace treaty with Russia. The UK and France are taking the lead on this issue, but specific details remain secret to avoid leaks to the Kremlin.

Discussions began a year ago, but the final decision will depend on the course of hostilities and the configuration of the front line.

Estonia ready to support the initiative

Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur confirmed at the Munich Security Conference that European states could send military personnel if Kyiv and Moscow reduce the number of troops along the line of contact to a few thousand.

However, the idea of full control over the entire front line is not currently being considered, as this would require tens of thousands of service personnel.
