Former Lviv tax official living beyond means

The recent dismissal of Taras Zavada, deputy head of the Main Directorate of the State Tax Service in Lviv Oblast, has drawn attention to his financial situation. The former official’s declaration contains several discrepancies that have raised questions among the public.

Real estate: mother’s land and a village house

According to documents, Taras Zavada officially resides in his mother’s house in the village of Yampil in Lviv Oblast. This small dwelling, measuring 66 square metres, is located on one of four land plots owned by her. This house has remained the former tax official’s only registered place of residence since 2016.

Notably, in 2022, Zavada’s mother acquired another plot – 3,000 square metres in the village of Mlynovtsi in Ternopil Oblast. The cost of the transaction was just 82,000 hryvnia, which appears extremely attractive by market standards.

Dream car or hidden income?

Particular interest is generated by the former tax official’s fondness for expensive cars. In 2019, he became the owner of a premium Audi Q8 crossover, which, however, is registered in the name of a close relative. The reason for this decision is obvious: even a used car of this model costs at least 3 million hryvnia, while a new one costs around 4 million.

With an official salary of 300,000 hryvnia per year and his mother’s pension of 40,000 hryvnia, such an acquisition looks, to put it mildly, questionable. However, Zavada himself stated in his declaration that he holds savings of 10,000 US dollars.
