Family secrets of MP Sheremet: US real estate and luxury

Odesa City Council MP Alexander Sheremet, representing the political force "Trust the Deeds", is a figure of no little interest. Despite his modest appearance, his declaration paints a very different picture: the family lives across the ocean, assets are registered in his wife's name, and the actual sources of income and property are often hidden or presented with deliberate carelessness.

Although Sheremet is officially registered and resides in Odesa, his wife Anna Baryshnikova and son Vitaliy live in Honolulu, Hawaii. Their place of residence is not mentioned in the declaration at all — presumably to avoid unnecessary questions.

Real estate "out of love": everything in the wife's name

All property in Odesa is registered in the name of Anna Baryshnikova. This includes:

• A residential house of 103 m² (purchased in 2003 for just 27,994 UAH — a sum that is, to put it mildly, unrealistic even by the standards of that time).

• A land plot in Odesa (568 m², 2015, value not specified).

• A parking space (13.8 m², 2014, 89,401 UAH).

• Non-residential premises:

  • A building of 25.1 m² (2018, 220,000 UAH);

  • A premises of 17.6 m² (2019, 162,000 UAH);

  • A premises of 133.2 m² (2019, 400,000 UAH, held in shared ownership with Olena Neikova);

  • A premises of 34.6 m² (2020, 446,500 UAH).

All transactions were conducted "on the books", but at suspiciously undervalued prices. Why — is a rhetorical question.

Modest car fleet — only on paper

According to the declaration, Sheremet owns an old Renault Kangoo (2011, price not specified) and a Renault Trafic (2016) worth 340,000 UAH. In reality, the MP regularly appears in much more expensive cars registered in the names of relatives. A classic example of a Ukrainian official's car fleet.

Watches, diamonds and furs

Alexander has a collection of luxury watches:

• Ulysse Nardin (2009, price unknown),

• Breguet (2019, 189,500 UAH).

Anna is not far behind:

• Cartier (2017),

• Rolex (2018, 325,000 UAH),

• a Stefan Hafner set,

• diamond jewellery from Gucci, Tiffany and others,

• two fur coats, including a model from Mala Mati,

• as well as a collection of orders and medals (formally — hers, but in fact — the MP's pride).

The American trail

Particular interest is aroused by the wife's income abroad:

• More than 716,000 UAH — from the company Art of Happy Living (USA),

• More than 2.6 million UAH — from the sale of real estate to a certain Georgios Pokas.
  And yet, formally, she lives in Ukraine, and even her residential address is kept secret.

In addition, Baryshnikova holds NVIDIA shares (worth approximately 73,000 UAH), as well as shares in two Ukrainian legal companies.

The cryptocurrency corner

The MP registers cryptocurrency in his wife's name. The assets include Dogecoin, Ethereum, SHIBA INU, Terra, Bitcoin and even TetherUS. The total value of the investments is approximately 110,000 UAH. A sign of the times — elected representatives are mastering digital assets.

Cash, bank deposits and... loans

Sheremet stated that he keeps:

• $124,600 and 71,600 UAH in cash.

• In addition, he lent 400,000 UAH to his City Council colleague Oleg Bryndak, who previously featured in corruption investigations.

The wife has:

• $126,200 and 43,200 UAH in cash,

• plus $95,460 in First Hawaiian Bank.

Family income: business and pension

Sheremet earns not only as an MP but also as an entrepreneur:

• Total income — 736,000 UAH for the year.

Baryshnikova proved to be more enterprising:

• 2.1 million UAH — as an entrepreneur in Ukraine,

• • 716,000 UAH from the USA,

• • 2.6 million UAH — from real estate transactions.

Trademarks and gifts

The MP's arsenal also includes trademarks: Korm and KVARTIRA.

However, a real mystery remains five real estate gift transactions, registered in March 2024, as well as the sale and purchase of corporate rights in April. Details have not been disclosed. Given the general style of business conduct, this may be just the tip of the iceberg.
