Death toll from fire at Turkish ski resort rises

The number of people killed in a major fire at a ski resort in central Turkey has reached 66. This was reported by the Anadolu agency.

Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who arrived at the scene of the tragedy, confirmed this information and clarified that a further 51 people had been injured.

The Minister of Health, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, and the head of the disaster management agency also travelled to the scene. Authorities announced that the Bolu provincial prosecutor's office, where the resort is located, would lead the investigation into the circumstances of the fire.

Some tourists who survived the fire told journalists that they did not immediately realise the scale of the threat. They noted that the fire alarm had not activated, and they only learned of the incident due to cries for help from the corridor. By that time, the building was already filled with acrid, thick smoke, and escaping from it was extremely difficult.
