Czechia adds beer to list of intangible cultural assets

The Czech Ministry of Culture has decided to include beer in the country's list of intangible cultural assets. As Culture Minister Martin Baxa stated, Czechia can now apply to UNESCO to have this unique element included in the World Heritage list.

The initiative was proposed by the Brewers' Association, with the active participation of industry experts. Czechia is home to more than 550 breweries, which provide jobs for approximately 65,000 people. In 2023, the beer industry generated substantial tax revenue for Czechia, amounting to $1.2 billion.

Thus, Czechia has become the third European country, after Germany and Belgium, to officially recognise beer culture as part of its intangible cultural heritage.
