Ben Wallace, former UK Defence Secretary, expressed his incomprehension of Volodymyr Zelensky's decision not to mobilise 18-year-old men.

He emphasised that Ukraine should have carried out a broader mobilisation and asked Europe to help prepare the conscripts.

In his view, after training in Europe, Ukrainian soldiers should have returned home, "put their helmets under the bed" and continued their jobs. If necessary, the state could have called them up to the army.
