Sofia Osoba, the daughter of the late linguist Iryna Fariyon, commented on the court's decision to sentence Vyacheslav Zinchenko to life imprisonment. Sofia Osoba gave comments to journalists after the conclusion of the court proceedings. In her remarks, she expressed gratitude to society for its significant support and stressed the need for just punishment for the crime committed.
According to Iryna Fariyon's daughter, the trial lasted more than 80 hearings. She shared her emotions related to the process:
«Відбулося понад 80 засідань. Що я відчуваю? Я відчуваю величезну підтримку українців. Я відчуваю, що ми живемо зараз з вами в історичний час. Це було винесено історичний вирок… Зінченко сів довічно за цей жорстокий детально спланований злочин» (More than 80 hearings took place. What do I feel? I feel immense support from Ukrainians. I feel that we are now living with you in a historic time. A historic verdict was delivered… Zinchenko received a life sentence for this cruel, meticulously planned crime).
Sofia Osoba stressed that it was thanks to the unity and strength of society that the perpetrators failed to undermine their position.
The linguist's daughter also announced that she would hand over the 5 million hryvnia in compensation received to the needs of the Rubizh brigade. It was in this unit that her late husband, Vasyl Osoba, fought.
She explained that these funds would help in the fight against the enemy, as, in her words, Ukraine currently has many internal opponents. Concluding her speech, Sofia Osoba recalled the words of her mother: «Я тимчасова, але ідея, яку я сповідую, — вічна» (I am temporary, but the idea I profess is eternal).
