Appeal to the US President

Twelve members of the US Senate, comprising six representatives each from the Republican and Democratic parties, sent an official letter to Donald Trump. The politicians are demanding the cancellation of the current agreement on the supply of diesel fuel from Russia. This was reported by journalist Ostap Yarish.

Arguments against the contract

The document states that the agreement concluded with Vladimir Putin does not align with principles of fairness and offers no benefit to American citizens. In the authors' view, such a decision merely provides Putin with additional resources to fund his war machine and allows the Russian Federation to continue its brutal attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

The senators emphasise that Moscow's ability to sell Russian diesel fuel on global markets without hindrance undermines US national security. They consider this a betrayal of the Ukrainian people, who continue to defend themselves against the brutal war unleashed by Putin. According to the senators, this deal is a gift to the enemy and a betrayal of allies, and therefore must be cancelled.

Call to action

The letter recalls America's historical role as a bastion of freedom in the fight against tyranny, as well as the fact that US presidents have embodied the country's resistance to tyrants. The authors of the appeal stress: "Путін - тиран" (Putin is a tyrant).

The senators urge the head of state to withdraw from this agreement and use the powers enshrined in the Lindsey Graham Act.
