Readiness to boycott presidential initiatives

According to The Guardian, representatives of the Republican Party in the US Congress stated that they would boycott President Donald Trump's initiatives. The politicians emphasised that this reaction became possible due to his position on the Russia-Ukraine war and the level of support for Ukraine.

Criticism of rhetoric and the Lindsey Graham Act

Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon called Trump's statements, which he considers loyal to Vladimir Putin, "shameful". According to Bacon, a group of Republicans, which includes a significant number of politicians, is not going to tolerate such rhetoric.

Darleen Graham, the sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, who took his seat, expressed disagreement with the President's decision not to apply the law named after her brother. She emphasised that Putin and Russia cannot be trusted. This position was supported by Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, who noted that Lindsey Graham and Ronald Reagan "would be ashamed of Trump".

Warning about capitulation and financial restrictions

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who is currently on political retirement, equated leaving Ukraine to its fate with "abandoning freedom".

Pennsylvania Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick pointed to the lack of explanations from the Trump administration regarding the suspension of the Starshield system in Ukraine and the diesel deal with Putin. He reminded that the House of Representatives has the ability to block the President's projects, the funding for which is approved by Congress. For example, funds can be withheld for the triumphal arch in Washington. "What Trump is doing is not a victory, but a capitulation and a disgrace to the country," Fitzpatrick added.
