Following a series of incidents involving attacks and threats at educational institutions, the Polish government is considering changing its approach to ensuring the safety of participants in the educational process. The Ministry of Education is preparing a package of new rules.
New powers for school principals
Among the proposed changes is granting school principals the right to check students' backpacks. If items posing a threat are found during the inspection, they are to be confiscated.
Physical restrictions and access control
In addition to checking personal belongings, the installation of locks allowing classrooms to be secured from the inside is envisaged. The option of restricting access to the premises of educational institutions for outsiders is also being considered.
Law enforcement response
According to the Polish Ministry of Interior, police have detained 135 people in recent days. 20,000 officers have been deployed to patrol schools.
