Poland prepares changes to mobilisation legislation for citizens abroad

Updating regulations for wartime scenarios

Polish legislation is undergoing changes concerning the procedure for mobilisation and actions in the event of a state of war being declared. Under current regulations, the state has the authority to call up for military service individuals belonging to categories established by law. For reservists who have been pre-assigned mobilisation roles, specific positions or functions within military units are designated for the period of mobilisation and war.

Status of Poles living abroad

One of the key innovations concerns Polish citizens who are permanently outside the country. As reported by the publication Forsal, under certain circumstances, the obligation to report for service may extend to this category of citizens. It is important to understand that this refers exclusively to a mobilisation or wartime scenario, not to current mass conscription. No general mobilisation has been declared in Poland at present, so these provisions do not imply the start of mandatory reporting for all citizens abroad.

Mechanism for expanding military registration

After mobilisation is declared, the government gains the ability to expand the circle of individuals subject to military registration. The current law explicitly provides a mechanism whereby certain groups of citizens may be required to report to a designated place and time. These measures are aimed at meeting the armed forces' personnel needs under exceptional circumstances.
