Petition to ban Russian-language music on streaming services gathers 25,000 signatures

A petition demanding the ban on the distribution of Russian-language music on major streaming platforms, including Spotify, YouTube Music and Apple Music, has gathered the 25,000 signatures required for further consideration.

The authors of the initiative claim that Russian-language music is a "инструментом культурного влияния" ("instrument of cultural influence") and an element of "мягкой силы" ("soft power"), through which Russia promotes its interests and strengthens its position in the information space.

Petition demands: legislative restrictions

Signatories are calling for legislative regulation of the issue, similar to the bans already introduced in the television and radio sectors. They insist on the need for restrictions on Russian-language music content to reduce its impact on the audience and exclude it from the public space.

Once the required number of signatures has been collected, the petition must be reviewed by the competent authorities.
